Staff Housing for SUSD Employees

In the Soledad Unified School District, supporting our educators goes beyond the classroom. Housing should not be a barrier to teaching, yet in Soledad, limited housing availability and rising rental costs can make it difficult for teachers and staff—especially those new to the district—to find safe, affordable places to live.

In November 2020, our voters allowed us to support our educators with stable, affordable housing by approving Measure N. This measure authorized $12 million in bond funding to build a district-led Staff Housing Community designed specifically for teachers, classified professionals, and support staff.

The project, which will be located on the corner of Monterey and Soledad streets, will offer 20 one- and two-bedroom units with shared common areas, solar panels, onsite parking, and other thoughtfully planned amenities. Construction broke ground in May 2025, and the complex is expected to be move-in ready in fall 2026.

By providing safe, affordable housing close to work, this initiative helps reduce commutes, lower transportation costs, and strengthen staff connections to the schools and community they serve.

Measure N reflects SUSD’s commitment to workforce stability, staff wellbeing, and long-term student success. By investing in housing for educators and staff, the district is creating a supportive environment that allows teachers and staff to focus on what matters most: providing an excellent education for our students.
